The mayor of the Nof HaGalil municipality, Ronen Plot, has announced his intention to name a street after the Ponovezh rosh yeshiva, Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l.

In a statement, he said: “With great sorrow and deep mourning, Nof HaGalil received the sad and bitter news of the passing of the esteemed rosh yeshiva, Rav Yerachmiel Gershon Edelstein zt”l.

“Rav Edelstein served as the head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak for decades, and he served as the president of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah. He devoted his life to thousands of his talmidim and was engaged in Torah study throughout his life. He led the chareidi community with great wisdom and humility.”

The mayor continued, “On a personal level, the residents of Nof HaGalil hold deep appreciation for the rav‘s significant contribution, as he encouraged and nurtured the neighborhood of Har Yona Gimel and instructed his talmidim to reside in Nof HaGalil. In order to commemorate his pure memory, it is my intention to propose to the members of the city council to name a street after him in the neighborhood upon his shloshim.”
