Flatbush Tisha B’Av Program Set for Ateres Chynka

rav-dovid-goldwasserThe annual Tisha B’Av Program of Flatbush will be held at Ateres Chynka, 120 Elmwood Avenue, near McDonald Avenue, on Monday night, July 19, and on Tuesday, July 20. For over 25 years, the Tisha B’Av Program and a smaller lecture program on the 17th of Tammuz have inspired members of the community to focus on the significance of the Three Weeks.

The program begins with Maariv at 9:10 p.m. on Monday night, July 19. Participants should bring their own siddurim and Kinnos. After the reading of Megillas Eichah, Rav Ephraim Goldstein, maggid shiur for Kol Haloshon, will present an introduction to the Kinnos and set the tone for the day of mourning with an address at 10:20 p.m.  on the topic of “Sinas Chinom.”

nosson-schermanThe program will resume the following morning with Shacharis at 8 a.m. Those participating are again requested to bring their own siddurim and Kinnos. At 9 a.m., Rav Yaakov Homnick, noted author of seforim on Shas, will give an introduction to the Kinnos, followed by the recital of Kinnos and explanations of selected Kinnos throughout the morning.

At 12:45 p.m., Rav Heshy Kleinman, author of the ArtScroll publications “Yearning with Fire” and “Praying with Fire,” will give advice on how we can nurture within ourselves a sincere desire for the geulah and the restoration of the Bais Hamikdosh.

Rav Nosson Scherman, General Editor of ArtScroll/Mesorah Publications, will address the topic of “Churban in Our Time” at 1:45 p.m., followed by Minchah at 2:45 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Rav Ezriel Tauber, founder of Shalheves, will discuss “How to Strive in Our Personal Struggles.”

lieffAt 4:30 p.m., Rav Moshe Tuvia Lieff, rov of Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin in Flatbush, will offer inspirational insights into “Approaching the Challenge of Tisha B’Av.”

At 5:30 p.m., Rav Shmuel Dishon, menahel of Mosdos Yad Yisroel-Karlin Stolin, will offer a powerful analysis of how a Jew should feel on this sad day that we all hope will soon turn into a joyful Yom Tov with the coming of Moshiach.

At 6:30 p.m., Rav Matisyahu Salomon, mashgiach of Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, will offer unique insights into how one can utilize Tisha B’Av to strengthen one’s connection to Hakadosh Boruch Hu

A second minyan for Minchah is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

rav-shmuel-dishon1At 8 p.m., Rav Dovid Goldwasser, rov of K’hal Bais Yitzchok in Flatbush, will conclude the program with a talk titled “A Message of Hope and Emunah.Maariv will begin at 9 p.m. and participants will be invited to break the fast with light refreshments.

  1. I have attended these programs. It is good to hear live speakers. I can still hope and pray that there will not need to be a Tisha B’Av program this year. But if we are still in Galus on that day, this is a meaningful way to spend it.
