Flatbush Tisha B’Av Program To Be Held at Ateres Chynka

rav-matisyahu-salomonThe annual Tisha B’Av Program of Flatbush will be held at Ateres Chynka Hall, located at 129 Elmwood Avenue, near McDonald Avenue and Avenue I, tonight, August 8, and tomorrow, August 9. The program will also be broadcast live to cities across the country via the Torah Conferencing Network.

For almost 30 years, the Tisha B’Av program has inspired members of the community to focus on the significance of the Three Weeks.

The program will begin with Maariv at 9 p.m. on Monday night, August 8. Participants should bring their own siddurim and Kinnos. After the reading of Megillas Eichah, Rabbi Yaakov Homnick of North Miami Beach, author of seforim on Shas, will speak at 10:10 p.m. on the topic of “Over What Do I Weep?” His appearance is being sponsored by Morton and Miriam Kriger of Lawrence, NY.

The program will resume the following morning with Shacharis at 8 a.m. Those participating are again requested to bring their own siddurim and Kinnos. At 9 a.m., Rabbi Efraim Levine, Daf Yomi maggid shiur, will give an introduction to the Kinnos and offer explanations of selected Kinnos.

Rabbi Noach Orlowek, mashgiach ruchni at Yeshiva Torah Ore in Yerushalayim, will speak at 12:45 p.m. Rabbi Shmuel Yaakov Klein, director of communications at Torah Umesorah, will speak at 1:45 p.m. on the topic of “Crying Throughout the Generations.” Minchah will be davened at 2:45 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Rabbi Paysach Krohn, noted maggid, author and mohel, will discuss the importance of Tisha B’Av.

Rabbi Yosef Viener, rov of Kehilas Shaar Hashamayim in Monsey, will speak at 4:30 p.m., focusing on the tragedy of Tisha B’Av and relating it to the contemporary challenges of life in America and the world today.

At 5:30 p.m., Rabbi Shmuel Dishon, menahel of Mosdos Yad Yisroel-Karlin Stolin, will offer an analysis of how a Jew should feel on this sad day that we all hope will soon turn into a joyful Yom Tov with the coming of Moshiach.

Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon, mashigach of Bais Medrash Govoah of Lakewood, will speak at 6:30 p.m. A second Minchah minyan will be held at 7:15 p.m.

Rabbi Fischel Schachter, rebbi at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and noted speaker, will address the gathering at 8 p.m. on “Anticipating the Third Bais Hamikdosh.” Maariv will begin at 8:52 p.m. and refreshments will be served following davening.
