Joe Biden said in an interview Wednesday that some funding should “absolutely” be redirected from police, amid calls from some in his party to “defund the police” in the wake of the protests across the country.

Biden’s campaign has said he does not support defunding the police. But in a Now This interview with activist Ady Barkan, the presumptive Democratic nominee said that police forces don’t need surplus military equipment, saying this is what leads them to “become the enemy” in a community.

“But do we agree that we can redirect some of the [police] funding?” Barkan asked Biden.

“Yes, absolutely,” said the former vice president.

  1. What a deliberate misrepresentation of Biden’s position. He absolutely does not want to de-fund police and he absolutely does not think that police agencies have any need for surplus military equipment, whose use actually takes police away from what they should be doing. He is right on both of these issues and this is not a flip flop at all.

The candidate who actually DOES want to de-fund police is Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called for an end to the federal program that helps local police departments increase their staffing levels.

  2. He won’t recall saying this, nor does he remember saying the opposite. What is scary is that the winds within the Democratic Party blow back and forth between the moderates and the radicals. The most recent wind comes out of Biden’s mouth. The flip flop that we will watch until November will resemble a game of ping pong between expert players. Meanwhile, the local Dems will defund their police, and chaos and anarchy will reign. Dems need to lose local races, not just the presidency.

  3. It turns out that the story is even worse than this. The recording on which Biden is claimed to have said this was doctored and retweeted by a Republican Congressman. Twitter had to remove it.

This is no flip flop, just more slanderous falsehoods from the Republicans. What is really depressing is that Matzav posts this false information and that commenters support it.

  4. Geller is known for false information, and she is also known to be an anti-religious Jew who in the past has condemned kosher slaughter and praised Ayn Rand.

But even were she truthful, it is a fact that Trump has actually called for cutting the only federal program that helps local law enforcement agencies hire officers.
