The Florida deputy who knew a gunman was loose at the Parkland high school but refused to go inside to confront the assailant was arrested Tuesday on 11 criminal charges related to his inaction during the massacre that killed 17 people.

Scot Peterson was on duty as the resource officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on the day of the February 2018 shooting but never entered the building while bullets were flying. He was charged with child neglect, culpable negligence and perjury — allegations that carry a maximum prison sentence of nearly 100 years.

Peterson was seen on surveillance video rushing with two staff members toward the building where the shooting happened. When they arrived, he pulled his weapon and went forward but then retreated and took up a position outside, where he stood with his gun drawn.

Peterson “did absolutely nothing to mitigate” the shooting, FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen said in a statement. “There can be no excuse for his complete inaction and no question that his inaction cost lives.”

    • That was his job. That’s what he was being PAID to do. Every police officer can potentially be killed at work on any given day. They know that very well when they take such a job. If every law enforcer would run and hide at every crime, because maybe they’ll get hurt or killed, chaos would ensue and we would have a lawless nation, where the criminals would rule the land. Mr. Peterson was a coward loser who did his figure 8’s with his golf cart while innocent children inside were being slaughtered. Instead of stepping up to the plate, he ran and hid. A clear accessor to murder.

  1. Justice in this country has gone amok

    100 years for what crime?

He should be fired and shamed perhaps, but Jail time for not putting himself in harms way?

The school should have never hired an old foggy!

  2. YES! 100 years for him and 100 years at rikers island for paul manafort for fudging some numbers on a mortgage application ! go justice go!!!!!

  3. Stop believing fake news conspiracies. The deputy should get lifetime jail for covering up the truth about the massacre and allowing an armored SWAT team to shoot 17 students, as was reported by witnesses – several of whom were since suicided.

Hopefully President Trump will uncover the truth about this school shooting and free Nikolas Cruz the scapegoat, while he reveals the truth about 9/11 and other conspiracies which have proven to be true.
