A flight that departed for Orlando today from Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, was forced to make an emergency landing this afternoon after it hit a flock of birds, Matzav.com has learned.

Spirit Airline Flight 303 was full of Orthodox Jews traveling from the tri-state area to Orlando for Chol Hamoed and for the second days of Yom Tov. The flight was to leave from Gate 4 at Atlantic City International Airport, landing at Gate 28 at Orlando International Airport.

Boruch Hashem, the plane was able to turn around and make a safe emergency landing back at Atlantic City International Airport.

The flight initially took off shortly after 2 p.m.

Initially, it was believed that once the issue was resolved, the plane would be able to take off again shortly after 5 p.m., but not long ago, the passengers’ luggage was removed from the aircraft. As of this writing, it is unclear what time the flight will take off again. The flight, for the time being, has been moved to a different gate, Matzav.com has learned.

Many of the passengers are stuck at the airport now with minimal provisions, having brought along a small amount of kosher l’Pesach food for the 2+-hour flight and being unable to purchase food at the airport.

Update, 6:15 p.m. ET: Passengers have reboarded the plane and are preparing for takeoff.

Update: The plane has landed in Orlando following the seven-hour ordeal.

  1. Spirit this and Spirit that. Spirit is the worst worst airline, ever. Only a total loser with no self esteem and enjoys being abused, fly’s with Spirit Air. It’s assur to have mercy on an ignoramus. Anyone that fly’s on Spirit is an am haaretz dioraisa.

    • I was on the flight together with elderly people in wheelchairs young couples and infants, it was an extremely difficult day for all of us,yet bh we got here safely. To the people mocking us it is extremely cruel and unforgivable . It shows insensitivity, we are supposed to have compassion for each other. I am horrified by this

  2. Such mesiras nefesh. Traveling to Orlando with minimal provisions. Kind of reminds me of the yissurim the Yidden endured during Mitzrayim.

  3. To spare me. I believe you never even flew with Spirit. I flew Spirit back in January with my family. On a scale of 1- 10 I would give them an 11 for both ways. From even before the flight everyone on the staff was courteous, friendly and polite.

  4. I don’t understand all those jocks about birds. Impact with a flock of birds or even with a single bird can make a hole in the airplane or damage an engine or avionics. Boruch Hashem that they did not crash and landed safely. There were plane crashes in the past caused by the impact with birds. I thing for this reason they play some special sounds at run-ways to shoo birds away, I don’t know why this time it did not work.

  5. Of the 15,000,000 Jews in the world, 14,999,990 empathize with our brethren passengers. The remaining 10 posted comments above.
