The Florida winners of the historic $1.58 billion Powerball drawing came forward today to collect their portion of the prize.
NBC reports that Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt, Long Island transplants who have lived in Melbourne Beach, Florida, since 1991, made their debut more than a month after the Florida Lottery announced that one of the winning tickets in the January 13 lottery was purchased in their town.
The couple has opted to take a lump sum of $327 million.
The NY Daily News says that Kaltschmidt, 55, and Smith, 70, kept everyone in the dark about their life altering win, even their children. “That was hard,” Smith told reporters today. We are not going to go party. We are still going to live the same lives,” added Kaltschmidt.
