President Biden’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, defended the president’s “excellent” mental capabilities on Thursday as Republicans call for his resignation. He insisted that the president doesn’t have Parkinson’s or any related condition. This may be O’Connor’s first interview with a media outlet since Biden assumed office.
O’Connor spoke to The Post just days after Biden suddenly ended his re-election campaign, following calls from fellow Democrats to step down due to his apparent mental decline. Biden’s frequent public confusion had led medical experts to suggest it might be Parkinson’s.
“Are you Dr. O’Connor?” a Post reporter asked the doctor on the White House driveway as he walked past the press briefing room.
“I don’t know. I don’t know,” he replied hesitantly, before confirming his identity and agreeing to discuss the president’s health after Biden’s second term campaign faltered post his poor June 27 debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
“How’s the president’s health?” The Post inquired.
“It’s excellent,” O’Connor said with a smile.
“Will you come to the briefing room to address us?” The Post asked.
“Probably not,” O’Connor replied. He has never been permitted to brief the press during Biden’s presidency, unlike previous presidential physicians who addressed the media during health crises.
“Could that change before his term ends?” the journalist followed up.
“I hope not,” O’Connor responded, as he was momentarily blocked from crossing the driveway due to a security cordon for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House.
“And how is his mental cognition?” The Post asked.
“It’s excellent,” the smiling doctor maintained.
“Is there a reason a cognitive test wasn’t performed?” the reporter pressed.
“We don’t need to. He’s here every day,” O’Connor stated.
As O’Connor began to walk away, The Post continued questioning, “Dr. O’Connor, is there any truth to the speculation about a possible Parkinson’s-related condition?”
“No,” O’Connor responded. “No, he’s good.”
“And the [Parkinson’s] specialist’s visits to the White House, were they related to that concern?” The Post queried.
“No,” O’Connor said. “He’s seen him three times, my letter was clear.”
O’Connor is rarely heard from, and a search of Nexis press clippings found no other interviews he has given during Biden’s presidency. However, he did speak at a medical event in 2022 and discussed his career and military service on a February episode of the “WarDocs” podcast.
Biden did not address the ongoing questions about his health in his Wednesday night speech announcing his decision to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement on the Democratic ticket. He stated only that it was time to “pass the torch.”
Biden had previously insisted that he would continue his plans to run in the November 5 election, telling BET in an interview recorded last Tuesday that he’d only drop out “if I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, ‘You’ve got this problem and that problem.’”
Republican leaders like House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), have demanded Biden resign rather than complete his term, which ends on January 20.
“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough,” Johnson declared Sunday.
Many medical experts have suggested in the past month that Biden likely has Parkinson’s or a similar condition.
“I could’ve diagnosed him from across the Mall,” neurologist Dr. Tom Pitts told NBC this month. He described Parkinson’s as “one of the easier movement disorders to diagnose,” citing Biden’s “rigidity,” “shuffling gait,” and “slow movement.”
He also pointed out Biden’s apparent “hypophonia,” or using a “small, monotone voice,” which he said “over time is a hallmark of Parkinson’s.”

Is it Covid that Biden got that got him to grow several inches? Did Netanyahu also merit growth Covid?
This is such a leftist gobbledygook it’s amazing. Just because the person guessing isn’t guessing exactly what it is, they’re still able to deny that there is an issue. THE FACT IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE AND HE’S נישט מיט אלעמען!
Well respected doctor. I think President Biden should become the president of the stock exchange. Someone with such knowledge and mental capabilities like President Biden should definitely get that position when he tenure at POTUS is done. It’s a win win situation.
I think all the media as well as both houses of Congress and the liberal members of the Supreme Court should choose Dr. O’Connor (if that’s his name, or his identity–he didn’t seem sure) as the primary care AND emergency physician for themselves and their entire families. Show us you trust his medical judgment!
