Two American B-52 Stratofortress bombers flew through the Persian Gulf on Thursday, in a show of force intended to warn Iran of the United States’ military might and deter attacks from the Islamic Republic and its terror proxies, unnamed US officials told the New York Times.
The United States Air Force has been carrying out such show-of-strength flights regularly during the administration of President Donald Trump, however the latest one is the second such mission within a month, reflecting acute tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The latest mission, however, comes on the heels of the assassination of Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, killed in late November outside Tehran in a bomb and gun attack that Iran has blamed on arch foe Israel and vowed to retaliate.
