This morning, the levaya of Mr. Jerome Irving Greenberg, former mayor of the town of Lakewood, was held at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel off East Seventh Street in Lakewood. Mr. Greenberg, affectionately known as Jerry, was 84. Mr. Greenberg died on Wednesday at Kimball Medical Center. Jerry, who was great friend of the frum community, fought in World War II and settled in Lakewood in 1959. In recent years, he lived in Lake Ridge in Toms River, NJ.
His father, Morris, was an old Lakewooder, who paved the path for Jerry’s life of service to the town. Jerry was a true friend to many and his interactions with the frum community, and his occasional visits to Beth Medrash Govoha over the years, will long be remembered. He was a vocal advocate for the needs of the yeshiva community in his position as mayor and in later years in other capacities.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married for 65 years, three sons, a daughter, and grandchildren.
Jerry was laid to rest in the Beth Olam Memorial Park cemetery in Lakewood.

I sat next to Jerry in the Alumni for the past few years.He showed great admiration for all the bnei torah.He was a tremendous inspiration to us all.Here was a 80 year old man coming in to B’M to start learning alef bais.May all that he did on behalf of the Lakewood community and his true desire to learn Torah be a zechus for his neshama.
