Literally hundreds of firefighters were on the scene of a four-alarm fire in Forest Hills, Queens, last night. The blaze broke out on a block of single-story stores on 99th Street near 68th Avenue, and Sifrei Torah at Congregation Ohr Natan, the prominent Bucharian congregation – and one of the largest in the country – were thankfully saved.
Heavy flames blew through the roof of the structures and spread to the adjacent structure. Extensive damage was done to Ohr Natan.
Late last night, the FDNY managed to douse the flames. It’s unclear if anyone was inside any of the buildings when the fire started, but it’s believed that the building was unoccupied.
There are reports that four firefighters suffered non-serious injuries. There’s no word of any civilians getting hurt.
