A fire broke out at Lakewood Mesivta in Lakewood, NJ, on Friday night at about 7:30 p.m.

The yeshiva, located at the corner of West Kennedy Blvd. and Laurelwood Avenues, is led by Rav Zvi Yosef Burzstyn.

An electrical fire in the basement of the building, where the dining room is located, is being blamed for triggering the blaze that caused the closure of the structure, with the bochurim being sent home on Shabbos. Bochurim from out of town were hosted by local residents.

Boruch Hashem, there were no injuries, though talmidim said that some pairs of tefillin belonging to students were damaged by the conflagration. The extent of other damage to the building and its contents is not yet know.

The building remains shuttered as fire officials investigate.

It is hoped that the matter will be resolved soon so that the yeshiva, one of the premier mesivtos in the tri-state, can resume sessions.
