babyA chareidi baby was kidnapped from his home this past week, but was later located safe and sound after much searching.

The nerve-racking drama took place after the half-year-old toddler disappeared from his parents’ Meah Shearim home in Yerushalayim. After hours of searching, the baby was found in the hands of a woman, a resident of the neighborhood.

The baby’s family had been attending a sheva brachos in the courtyard of one of the local homes and left the baby in a stroller close nearby. Shortly thereafter, the alarmed parents noticed that the baby was gone. Police were called and extensive searches began.

Only hours later, the questioning of a relative led the family to a suspicious woman who had been seen with a baby wrapped in her hands. Police tracked down the woman. In her defense, the woman claimed, “I found the baby abandoned on the street and decided to take care of him.”

The woman was arrested and sent for a psychiatric examination.

  1. “The baby’s family had been attending a sheva brachos in the courtyard of one of the local homes and left the baby in a stroller close nearby.”

    Stupid …

  2. “A chareidi baby” — how wonderful that he’s already chareidi at such an early age. “Half-year-old toddler” — early walker, huh? “A baby wrapped in her hands” — you folks could use a good copyeditor.

  3. Maybe once upon a time it might have been safe but there is no longer such a thing as a safe neighborhood.
And if a store owner does not allow
a baby carriage into the store then you have to skip the shopping.

  4. very scary and extremely irresponsible of the parents. In the US, they wouldve been arrested on the spot! If you must go to sheva brachos, get a babysitter…

  5. Before we rush to condemnation based on nothing but this second (or third or fourth!) hand report how about remembering the mitzvah (de’oraita!) of dan le kav zechot – applicable even in a FIRST hand situation how much more so NOW !

  6. Oh, VERY ALARMED PARENTS, were they? Well, it should not have been such a shocker that your precious baby was missing AFTER LEAVING HIM IN A STROLLER ALONE IN A COURTYARD! If I were that women who took the baby, I would keep him. He would probably be better off!
