far-rockawayA tenth grade girl attending a private girls high school in Far Rockaway, made a routine phone call to her “adopted grandmother” on Dec 17 2010, only to discover that the elderly woman had fallen and was unable to move or seek assistance on her own. Subsequently, the young woman phoned an emergency volunteer ambulance service and gave them all the pertinent information necessary for them to respond to the call. The ambulance arrived on the scene and rescued the woman.Tova Fink, the tenth grade girl who performed the rescue attends TAG High School in Far Rockaway, and is a volunteer in one of the school programs called “Adopt a Bubby.” The program is part of a network of voluntary kindness projects in which students participate.

“We are enormously proud of Tova, she is an exceptional girl,” remarked Mrs. Breindy Judowitz who heads the kindness projects in the Torah Academy High School for Girls. “This is a program that has enormous impact because it makes sure that someone reaches out to these elderly people and shows concern. In this situation that concern was critical.”

Miss Fink had the presence of mind to call the Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance organization and gave them the phone number and address of the “adopted bubby.”

“From what I understand, Miss Fink called her “adopted bubby” as she does every Friday to wish her a gut Shabbos and the woman cried out for help saying that she fell and that she cannot move,” remarked a teacher at TAG High School. “Thank G-d, Miss Fink knew exactly what to do. We are so proud of her.”
