A man sued the Israeli Airport Authority due to its refusal to employ anyone who refuses to work Shabbos shifts, despite a drastic shortage of airport workers.

Moshe Goldberg, who lives in Beit Shemesh, demanded $40,000 compensation after the authority turned him down despite his offer to work extra night shifts instead.

“This is a blatant discrimination of the equal opportunities at work law, and in complete contradiction to the Golden Mall ruling [stating that even a place that opens on Shabbos must hire shomer Shabbos workers],” said attorney Michael Litvak of Betzalmo. “I am sure that the labor court will accept my client’s claim and award him the full amount of compensation. Government companies cannot be allowed to harm the livelihood of job seekers who just want to keep their faith and religion.”
