U.S Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) rebuked former President Donald Trump for invoking “dual loyalty tropes” during an Oct. 16 interview on MSNBC’s The Mehdi Hasan Show.

“Anti-Semitism is on the rise and all of us have a responsibility to condemn it,” Omar said. “To continue to have someone, a former president with his platform, continuously speaking to his white supremist [sic] base in such a language—it’s very scary and dangerous and we have to condemn it.”

Reaction on Twitter, where Omar’s comments were posted, accused her of “audacity” given the anti-Semitic comments she has made in the past, notably in Feb. 2019 in which she accused Israel’s allies of having been paid off for their support, tweeting, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” in a reference to American $100 bills, on which U.S. founding father Benjamin Franklin features.

Responding to the overwhelmingly negative Twitter response, show host Hasan tweeted: “For those falsely suggesting Rep. Omar was my main guest on this topic—she wasn’t! She came on to talk about 1/6 [the Jan. 6, 2021 incident at the U.S. Capitol] much later in the show—I did in fact have a Jewish American voice to discuss anti-Semitism, at the top of the show.”

Several other Democratic congresspeople, Jewish groups, and the White House also condemned Trump’s remarks. “Donald Trump’s comments were anti-Semitic, as you all know, and insulting both to Jews and our Israeli allies,” White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in a briefing Monday.

Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Sunday that “somewhat surprisingly,” evangelicals are more appreciative of what he has done for Israel as president than “people of the Jewish faith.”

“U.S. Jews have to get their act together and appreciate what they have in Israel—Before it is too late,” he said.

Trump noted that Jews in Israel are different and there he has the “highest approval rating in the world—could easily be P.M.!” JNS

  1. Upon learning that Ilhan Omar told MSNBC that “Anti-Semitism is on the rise and all of us have a responsibility to condemn it,” the late Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler, posted a message on his Gehinnom social media account saying, “I wholeheartedly agree with Ilhan Omar, and strongly condemn anti semitism in all its forms.”
“I call on the entire free world to join me and the congresswoman in condemning anti semitsm,” Hitler went on to say, “in order to ensure that the world we live in remains a safe and secure place for people of all faiths and persuasions. Heil Ilhan Omar!”

  2. It isn’t funny.

Jews should be more vocal about the difference between Judaism and – its polar opposite – Zionism.

The Zionist State is a perfectly fair target for criticism by both Jew and gentile. That criticism of Zionism is wrong only if that then gets misdirected at Jews.

Jews are Jewish and Zionists are Zionists. Similarly (lihavdil), Christians are Christian and Americans are Americans. It really is that simple, other than the massive Zionist Big Lie and propaganda falsely claiming its “State” to be Jewish. The State of Israel is Zionist, not Jewish.

    • Not the point. BTW look at Kinos of Tisha B’av that talks about the children of Reb Yishmael Kohen Gadol, the composer of the Kinah calls them Tziyonim. The composer wasn’t a modern day Zionist. So being a Zionist isn’t a problem. Worshiping the medina is the only debate. However those targeting the medina politically from America like Omar aren’t doing so because of anything other racism. If you believe differently, try providing any evidence that they care for any of those they claim to be concerned for.

      • Yes, that is exactly the point.

First of all, please don’t bring in irrelevant things from kinos. The term Zionist means not “tziyonim” as in kinos but rather the redefinition of the Jewish people and religion (same difference) from G-d and Torah-based to idolatrous/godless Nationalist land-based.

Back to the point, to call her an Antisemite solely due to comments about Israel is both silly and idolatry, as in Zionism. If she criticizes or hates Jews as a result of what the Zionists do then she is, herself, a Zionist, as she is believing their invented story about the Zionists representing the Jewish people.

So, we should all give credit where credit is due. Her sticking up for Jews against antisemitism should be commended not mocked.
