Former congresswoman Gabby Giffords called Wednesday morning’s shooting at a congressional baseball practice an attack on “all who serve and on all who participate in our democracy,” the Daily Beat reports. In a sympathetic tweet, the assassination attempt survivor called for unity and thanked the Capitol Police who reacted to the attack.

“May we all come together with prayers for the survivors, love for their friends and family, and the courage to make this country its best,” she wrote.

Giffords was the most recent member of Congress to be shot prior to Wednesday’s attack. In 2011 she was shot in the head when a gunman opened fire on a constituent meeting in Tucson, killing six people. She survived but had to resign from her position due to her injuries. Since stepping down she has been a strong advocate for stricter gun laws.

  1. I don’t think her comments are genuine at this point. She’s trying to draw attention away from the fact that HER party, the Democrats, created this hatred to go out and harm Republicans.
She had her hour. Now is not the time to draw attention to herself.

  2. when a person is determined to do something so crazy, there is really no security system that can stop him. this is not a gun issue tho i am anti-gun. this is an issue of insanity. we cannot put people in bubbles
