Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz addressed the controversy over the egalitarian prayer section of the Kosel in a meeting with Blue and White party activists.

Tensions escalated at the beginning of Tisha B’av after a group of charedim disrupted a reading of Eicha by the Conservative movement.

“The Western Wall is long enough to accommodate all parts of Israeli society. I am in favor of Orthodox leadership, but I am not in favor of Orthodox exclusivity,” the leader of the Blue and White party said in a video message.

  1. nihiyeh k’chol hagoyim

why does he think he needs this country? who does he think gave him the rights to this country or this wall?

  2. First of all, I find the title highly inappropriate. At no point in the message did he say he’s against chareidim, he said that he’s against the exclusiveness.
Which everyone should agree to, on Tisha b’av the day the beis hamikdash was destroyed because of hatred we stand by the makom hamikdash and yell at other Jews?! whether you like it or not, conservative, or even irreligious Jews, are Jews as well, and deserve to be treated as such!!
The charreidim in Israel more often then not get ahead of themselves, and don’t see everyone as brothers rather see it as teams and were all fighting each other. Even within Chareidim, a litvak wont daven in a chassidish shul because of masks or something dumb like that. Obviously all sides are at fault and since were more mature we should take the first steps in uniting klal yisroel, and what better time to do if not tisha b’av!

  3. I’m in favor of orthodox leadership.. Right, Just as Muslims would approve a secular arrogant bigot to dictate anything regarding their religion. Probably the only religion that would tolerate this is the atheistic religion.

  4. A few factual corrections,

#1 He wasn’t speaking at all about Chareidim but of Orthodoxy in general.
#2 Chareidim didn’t disrupt the Conservative reading of Eicha, the story was that when the Conservatives arrived they found a group of Dati Leumi boys and girls reading the Eicha with a Mechitza separating the genders, thus “desecrating” that section by using it for prayers according to Jewish tradition.

  5. this is the HOLIEST place of the Jewish religion and shouldn’t be desecrated by un-Jewish people (i.e. Reform. Conservative, Egalitarium, etc.)

  6. Could you imagine if the secular would ch”v have control over the holy Kosel? It would look like Tel Aviv and no chareidi would be able to set foot there.
There’s good reason Gantz never became PM.

  7. Jacob:
Anyone who adheres to the word of HaShem and the chachmei HaTorah are, by definition, “chareidim.” Sorry, but those are the facts. It is those who wish to place a mechitzah between the Dati li’umi and the “Litvisheh” and the “Chasidisheh” etc. who are, baselessly, causing friction and factions to grow.

  8. Dunk the diamond. There is a purpose for jewish salvation. The cross away might ever require dress codes too. I say that this should be enforced. Our photos might be circulating!
