Online crowdfunding projects have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the family of NYPD chokehold victim Eric Garner, but the slain man’s family says they have not received any of it. Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, and his daughter Erica Garner say that only a few online fundraisers have actually handed over any money, though there are at least 19 collecting in Garner’s name.

“I feel like people are trying to use my father’s name for their own gain,” Erica Garner told DNAinfo. “It’s unfortunately a sad situation.” The family is reportedly looking into legal action against the unaffiliated campaigns. Read more at DNAinfo.

  1. I am shocked! How can such upstanding people steal from the victims? How can the reverend Al Sharpton steal from helpless people?

  2. Why does your headline say $0 when the quote makes it clear that at least some of the people raising money did hand it over?

  3. Sorry… my error. It’s not the quote, it’s the line “Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, and his daughter Erica Garner say that only a few online fundraisers have actually handed over any money”

  4. It says that [some] online crowdsourcing projects have raised money but have not handed any over. It does not say that none have handed over any money. Thge headline is referring to the ones which have not handed anything over.
