Rav Michoel MillerThis evening, a kinnus chizuk and gathering l’illui nishmas Rav Mordechai Michoel Miller zt”l will take place at Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel in Flatbush, where Rav Miller served as a dedicated rebbi. The hespeidim will begin at 8 p.m., followed by a minyan for Maariv at 9:45 p.m. Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel is located at 1271 East 35th Street.

Rav Miller was the eighth grade rebbi at Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel of Flatbush and previously a longtime rebbi at Yeshiva Toras Emes Kamenitz. He was 66 years old.

Rav Miller was teaching and actively imparting Torah and yirah upon his talmidim until this past Friday. Towards the end of Shabbos, Parshas Ki Sisa, Rav Michoel suffered a sudden heart attack and returned his neshama to his Maker.

Rav Miller was a beloved rebbi for generations of talmidim. In a teaching career that spanned more than 40 years, he touched thousands of talmidim and many credit him with giving them their initial “geshmak” in learning. Rav Miller was a rebbi who was a true idealist. His talmidim saw how much he meant what he taught and how nothing gave him as much pleasure as watching his talmidim progress in learning and proceed on the path of Torah.

Born in 1944 to Rabbi and Mrs. Yeshaya Miller, Rav Miller himself learned as a bochur at the yeshiva of Rav Yehuda Davis zt”l, who imbued him with a burning desire to spread Torah while at the same time attaching almost no importance to material matters. Rav Miller had learned earlier under Rav Shlomo Heiman zt”l in the Boston area.

The way Rav Miller conducted his life was with tznius and restraint. It was clear that matters of Olam Hazeh meant little to him and he only desired to learn, perform mitzvos and engage in his life’s work of being mechanech Jewish children. Despite the fact that he taught for years, Rav Michoel never sufficed with just teaching the Gemara by rote. He always prepared anew and taught the Gemara with a fiery enthusiasm that was contagious.

Rav Miller was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who established a wonderful Torah family. He leaves behind his wife, Mrs. Chana Miller, his three sons, Rabbis Akiva, Shlomo Chaim and Asher Miller, his daughters, Mrs. Hadassah Deutsch, Mrs. Chaya Feuerman, Mrs. Miriam Kolodny, Mrs. Ruchy Hamburger and Mrs. Yehudis Goldberg, and his brother, Rav Yisroel Miller, rov in Pittsburgh.

Yehi zichro boruch.
