Gerrer Rebbe Recovering After Surgery

gerrer-rebbeThe Gerrer Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Aryeh Alter, is currently recovering after undergoing surgery today. Few details relating to the surgery were released, but those close to the Rebbe said that surgeons removed a growth during the operation.

The Rebbe is said to be in stable condition and will remain in the hospital for an undetermined length of time to convalesce.

All are asked to be mispallel for Rav Yaakov Aryeh ben Yutta Henna.

The Rebbe, who is 73 years old, is the seventh admor of Ger, a position he has held since 1996. He is a son of Rav Simcha Bunim Alter, also known as the Lev Simcha, the fifth Gerrer Rebbe. When Rav Simcha Bunim was niftar in 1992, he was succeeded by his half-brother, Rav Pinchas Menachem Alter, the Pnei Menachem. Upon the latter’s unexpected petirah in 1996, the current Rebbe took over the helm of the Chassidus.
