Germany Bans Iran’s Mahan Airlines, Accused Of Smuggling Missiles Into Syria

The German tabloid Bild first reported that the government was planning to ban Iran’s second largest airline, Mahan, and would halt all flights beginning in January of 2019 after it was alleged the airline is involved in smuggling arms to Hezbollah and Syria.

According to the report, the decision was made after internal discussions and followed the US intelligence services claims that German cooperation with the airline would threaten the security of US citizens.

Shortly after the December report, a spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization dismissed the media speculation, saying it had not yet been told of any ban by the German government.
