Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier who was captured by Hamas terrorists in 2006 and held captive for over five years until his release in October 2011, is now engaged.

Shalit’s kallah is Nitzan Shabbat, to whom he proposed on Erev Shabbos.

The 24-year-old Shalit was captured in 2006 near the Kerem Shalom crossing in Israel, and held by Hamas as a hostage at an unknown location in the Gaza Strip.

Shalit was the first Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian terrorists since Nachshon Wachsman in 1994. Shalit, having a rank of Corporal in the IDF’s Armor Corps at the time of his capture, was promoted to Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, and then Sergeant Major on the eve of his release.

Shalit was born in Nahariya, Israel, to Noam and Aviva Shalit. He has an older brother and a younger sister.

Did Matzav’s Rabbbanic board change its policy regarding posting pictures of women or did they make an exception for this special occasion?

    • Matzav are sanctimonious phonies of the worst kind. They pick and choose who to post but basically they only post females that they deem as wealthy. The little kinderlach that run this putrid website, are only concerned about getting good shidduchim for their kids. They couldn’t care less about the tzibbur.

      • If you truly want to avoid seeing pictures of females, you can always get a filter on your device.
My phone is filtered through Hadran and the internet is filtered through Netfree. It means that my phone will never show a picture of a woman. For example, on this web page, the picture is completely blurred out and has a circle with a slash in it to show that the picture has been vetted and deemed not tzanua.

Dont blame matzav for your not taking shmiras einayim seriously.

    • And the picture of Hillary Clinton, or the one of Senator Klobechar, or of Speaker Pelosi? Clearly there is no policy against these pictures.

  3. Agree this picture is inappropriate for a Frum news site. This is not simcha spot. Post the simcha by all means, but not a picture like this…
