Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier who was held captive by the Hamas terror group for five years and who was freed in exchange for over 1,000 convicted murderers, spoke to Arutz Sheva after the passing of Yehuda Wachsman.
Speaking at Wachsman’s funeral, Shalit told Arutz Sheva that the Wachsman family agreed to free the terrorist who was involved in the murder of [their son] Nachshon, as part of the terrorist agreement which lead to Shalit’s release from Hamas captivity.
“I heard many stories from people who knew Yehuda and from my family, about how noble he was, about the help, and about the fact that the Wachsman family ‘compromised’ on that the terrorist should sit in an Israeli jail, agreeing that he should be released in my deal,” Shalit said.
“It really influenced the deal, and I will thank Yehuda for my entire life.”

Shomer Shabbos?
Who? Yehuda Waxman (they spell it wrong everywhere). Yes, he certainly was. He was my great-uncle and a man with a huge heart, a man who learned Torah every day and was involved in a tremendous Kiddush Hashem after his son’s murder.
Nachshon Wachsman,ז”ל came from a Shomer Shabbos family.
If only he’d understand to thank Hashem as well as all Jews for their prayers.
To Mr. Wondering
Yes, he is. So was their son Nachman, H”YD. My family in Israel knows the Wachsmans personally.
The killed son’s first name was Nachshon.
To Mr. Wondering
Yes, he was as was his son Nachman H”YD. My family in Israel knows the Wachsmans.
