gingrichNewt Gingrich has accused President Obama of playing race.

Gingrich called Obama’s remarks about Trayvon Martin “disgraceful” in an interview with Sean Hannity.

“It’s not a question of who that young man looked like. Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe, period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background,” Gingrich said. “Is the President suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn’t look like him?”

Earlier in the day Gingrich told reporters that he thought the case should be investigated and suggested the shooter was at fault.

“That’s just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot,” Gingrich continued on Hannity’s show. “It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian-American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American. It is sad for all Americans. Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

Obama has gotten some criticism for discussing a pending legal matter. But the question of whether Martin’s race was a factor in his death, in which his alleged shooter was not arrested, is very much a part of the outcry over the case, and why it’s gotten so much attention.

  1. Well, of course he would look like Obama, they are both light black! Wonder what he would say if the lad would had been white? Probably nothing.

  2. This is absurd. When I saw the victims in France the first thing I thought is that they look like us…Jews. The shooter picked them because of that.

There is reason to believe, whether or not it turns out to be correct, that this young man was shot because in the mind of a wanna be crime fighter this he looked like a criminal because of his ethnicity.

You don’t have to be a bleeding heart liberal to recognize someone shouldn’t be murdered because of the race, and it is perfectly understandable that the president should reflect on such a sobering thought.

Newts comments are disgraceful, no grace…no class…no chance of receiving the nomination.

  3. This is just a politician looking for attention. Newt is twisting the president’s words. There is VERY little white racism, while we know very well that there remains a fair amount of anti-black racism.

  4. What is disgraceful about the president’s comments is as follows:
    1. The president is passing judgment on an issue about which he knows NO facts. As of yet, it is unclear as to whether or not George Z acted in self defense.
    2. The president is passing judgment about something which is well below his pay grade. This is a local issue and is not something that should be dealt with by the president. If asked about it, a president should answer that it is a local matter and he trusts the local officials to deal with it properly. And then when asked a question about the morality of abortion, if any of you remember, this sorry excuse for a president replied that it is above his pay grade. As with the silly beer summit, the president is showing that he is someone much smaller than the position that he fills.
    3. It is obvious that these comments were made by the president only because the teenager was black, just as by the beer summit. This is just a knee jerk reaction on the part of this racist president. It is like Pavlov’s dogs who salivated every time they heard a bell ring. But what is much more dangerous is this: What if, due to the president’s incendiary comments, he fans the flames of hate filled black mobs, who in turn go on a rampage and lynch this man or other innocent people? What will the president have to say then?

  5. it is very interesting that the white house could not get with rubashkin when everyone realized it was a blood libel but in this case with a black fellow the president marches right into the middle. lets also not forget about the story with that professor from mass. where the president decided it was his bussines.i will let everyone make their own decision and wont publicly draw any conclusions
