Roshei yeshiva of the huge Chevron Yeshiva in Yerushalayim’s Givat Mordechai neighborhood protested against a municipal plan to build a thousand-student college of the religious-Zionist Emunah organization opposite the yeshiva.
“Over four hundred chareidi children of the neighborhood go out every day to learn at educational institutions in other neighborhoods,” a local activist said. “Five kindergartens in the neighborhood are located in sub-standard buildings. Nonetheless, in this case, the Yerushalayim municipality chose to allocate [land] to a college which is totally disconnected from the neighborhood instead of providing solutions to locals who sought to establish a day care center, school and Talmud Torah at the site.”
