Tomorrow, Yidden across the world will be accepting upon themselves a taanis sha’os – a voluntary fast – as a zechus for Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin, who remains in jail following the decision this past week by U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade to deny him bail.
The global taanis sha’os effort will unify Yidden in all communities who will be accepting upon themselves not to eat for a period of time – be it an hour, two hours or longer – for the zechus of Reb Shalom Mordechai ben Rivkah.
Tomorrow, 9 Kislev, is the birthday and yahrtzeit of Rav Dov Ber of Lubavitch, son of the Baal Hatanya.
As we’ve reported, Judge Reade has ignored the more than 1,300 letters and e-mails of support for Reb Shalom Mordechai that she received, the 43 homes worth more than $7 million offered as collateral from supporters, and letters from six rabbonim who offered their Sifrei Torah in exchange for Reb Shalom Mordechai’s release. Reade feels that Reb Shalom Mordechai is a flight risk, and askanim are working on his behalf.
Reb Shalom Mordechai has surrendered his driver’s license, birth certificate and passport. His wife and children also do not possess their birth certificates.
A Sioux Falls, S.D. jury convicted Reb Shalom Mordechai two weeks ago on 86 counts of fraud. He faces a maximum of 1,255 years in prison.

What time is the fast until?
Very appropriate, and I will probably beli neder be fasting as well.
Which gedolim have advised that tomorrow be observed in this fashion?
To #1: I am also fasting. It said in the article you can fast for any period of time. Be it one or two hours. Bli Neder, I will be fasting from morning till 12 noon.
We must continue to daven for him.

Highly unnecessary comment. If you have a heart and feelings for another jew it is the only sound thing to do.

I will not be fasting due to my health, however I will b’n say some extra Thilim and give some extra Tzedaka.
To #5: You don’t have to fast. But please find it in your heart to say Tehillim for him.
Why was #3’s comment so unnecessary? There are those who advice against fasting anything other than the mandated fasts altogether on purely halachic grounds. Without guidance we should be mekable a fast upon ourselves?

I can not stand seeing in articles over and over again that SMR was convicted of 86 counts when there should have been only maybe five charges. How was it blown so out of proportion to 86 counts? This is a totol witchunt fuled by hatred.

i fasted the whole day and went to the Ohel B”H
