The Trump administration is reportedly considering halting New York City’s newly launched congestion pricing program, which was designed to reduce emissions from cars. The initiative, which gained key federal approval from the Biden administration last year, might face a reversal under Trump’s transportation department. According to the New York Times, the potential withdrawal of that approval could lead to a legal confrontation between state and federal authorities, possibly stopping the program altogether.
The initiative, which took effect earlier this month after overcoming numerous legal challenges, imposes a $9 fee on drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street. The revenue generated from this charge is intended to fund improvements to public transportation. This program came into effect after a significant delay, including a temporary suspension by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, which she later rescinded.
The Trump administration has yet to make a definitive decision regarding the congestion pricing program. In two discussions this week, Governor Hochul has defended the program’s success. In their latest conversation on Thursday morning, she presented data showing that congestion pricing is effectively addressing traffic issues, CBS News reported. Trump responded by stating he would not take any action against the program before consulting with Hochul again, with plans for another conversation next week.
The former president, who hails from New York, had previously vowed to terminate the program if he returned to office, arguing that it would negatively impact the city’s economy. “I will TERMINATE Congestion Pricing in my FIRST WEEK back in Office!!!” Trump declared in a May post on social media.
On Monday, New Jersey’s Democratic governor urged Trump to reconsider the congestion pricing program after his state failed in its legal challenge to block it. The prospect of halting the program has prompted backlash from environmental groups.
“Donald Trump couldn’t be further out of touch with a typical commuter. Working New Yorkers have just begun enjoying the benefits of congestion pricing – less traffic and pollution, cleaner air,” said Ben Jealous, executive director of the Sierra Club. “The program is working, and New York City should be proud of its leadership in addressing its notable congestion with an effective policy that invests the money into its subway.”

DJT doesn’t live in NYC anymore, and doesn’t breathe in its polluted air. He should not mix in to roll back a piece of great progress for a change.
Trump is the President for ALL of the US, from right to left and top to bottom, INCLUDING NYC.
Liberal anti humanity fools like you shouldn’t be dictating to others how to live. If you find it so difficult to live in NYC, feel free to create a town somewhere that will make Amish seem enlightened. Build yourself a cabin out of mud. Leave the rest of us alone. This has nothing to do with pollution in the least. It’s all about taxing the overtaxed hard working middle class.

I completely agree with your above point and I’ve said the same thing myself. It’s a shame that the first 2/3 of your reply was spent on nastiness and name-calling that was completely unnecessary and an absolutely inappropriate way to speak to your fellow Jew. Disagreeing civilly doesn’t detract one iota from the point you’re trying to make.
He just so happens to own many buildings in Manhattan.
It has nothing to do with reducing emissions, it has everything to do with lining the MTA pockets so that they can do other programs.
But let’s put super radical environmental wacko RFK in charge, that’s a real conservative approach
By keep repeating a lie won’t make it the truth. By name calling someone of great mind and brilliance, shows how corrupted your mind has become.
No no no. Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Carl Heastie will never allow that. We must continue to rob the dumb stupid gullible taxpayers of this City. How can we destroy the economy in Manhattan and bring the White man to his knees?
It is a great success so far, keep it going, expand it, spread it to other places.
