Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the architect of Iran’s nuclear program, was reportedly assassinated today in Damavand, a city near Tehran, Iran. He was considered a vital piece in Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, with some comparing his importance to that of Qasem Soleimani, the IRGC commander killed in a US airstrike earlier this year.
Details of the assassination are still murky, but it appears that one or several operatives gunned down the scientist, possibly coming and leaving on motorbikes.
Fakhrizadeh was mentioned by Israel’s PM Binyamin Netanyahu in a 2018 presentation on Iran’s nuclear secrets.
