
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told former President Trump as he was flying to Florida in the final hours of his term in office not to form a third party, according to a report by The Washington Post.
McDaniel, a close ally of Trump who earned another term at the RNC largely because of the support of the former president, called Trump and urged him not to form the Patriot Party, according to the report.
Trump supporters have talked about such a move, and the talks had heated up after outrage over the mob attack on the Capitol, which occurred after weeks in which Trump bloated baseless conspiracy theories that the election had been stolen from him.
A new party backing Trump could divide Republicans, potentially making it easier for Democrats to win elections.
