Republicans have carved out a potential path to holding the Senate next week, a route that runs through Minnesota and Michigan.

Democrats have a strong chance of erasing their 53 to 47 seat minority and taking control of the chamber. According to The Hill, the party thinks that if it can pick up a seat in Michigan with John James and in Minnesota with Jason Lewis, it would retain its majority.

“I think it’s even money, it’s 50-50. There are some huge fights going on, and huge amounts of money being spent, and races are competitive, but our candidates are doing a good job. They’re holding their own,” Senate Majority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., said.

James is Black, and Republicans are counting on African American voters to support him in Tuesday’s election.

  1. While James seems like an ordinary conservative Republican, Lewis is an anti-Semite. Among the things that he has said is that the Israel Lobby controls the Republican Party and that the Republican Party has dual loyalty. He has claimed that the Trump Administration has people who are dual US-Israel citizens, and that that is a problem. (No evidence for that.)
