Alabama Gov. Robert BentleyAlabama Gov. Robert Bentley said on Sunday he planned to refuse the relocation of Syrian refugees to his state in the wake of the deadly attacks in Paris.

“I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest, possible risk of an attack on our people,” Bentley said in a statement.

The governor did not elaborate on how he planned to block the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Out of the estimated 2,000 Syrian refugees that have so far been resettled in the U.S., none have been relocated to Alabama, the statement said. Alabama became the second state to announce plans to refuse Syrian refugees.

Earlier on Sunday, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said he would suspend the acceptance of new refugees until the Department of Homeland Security “completes a full review of security clearances and procedures.” Read more at AL.com.
