Governor David Paterson to Address Ohel’s Annual Dinner Tonight

david-paterson-closeup_0Ohel’s annual dinner will be held tonight at the New York Hilton. The dinner celebrates nearly 40 years of service excellence at Ohel and its ongoing commitment to help children and adults with disabilities and families in crisis.

New York Governor David Paterson will be the keynote speaker at the dinner.

Honorees include Mitchell A. (Moshe) and Yocheved Silk of Boro Park. Mitchell is a partner in the New York office of the global legal practice of Allen & Overy LLP, where he specializes in project finance, private investment fund and direct investment matters. He heads the firm’s US China Practice and also heads the New York office’s Training Committee that deals with associate training and development. 

Mitchell is an active member of Congregation Tiferes Shulem D’Nadvorna in Boro Park and its yeshiva and is a talmid of Rav Shloime Leifer, the Nadvorna Rebbe, as well as Congregation Bnei Israel Chaim in Manhattan under the leadership of Rav Chaskel Besser. 

Chevie Silk is a proud native of Boro Park, and has been very active in affairs relating to the community’s mentally challenged population. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Pace University and completed Pace’s Physician’s Assistance program in conjunction with Lenox Hill Hospital. She is a practicing PA. 

Chevie has a special affinity for working with individuals with disabilities and served as a manager for the women’s residence for Women’s League, an organization dedicated to the care of the developmentally disabled. She was also a high school English and history teacher at various girls’ high schools in Brooklyn.

Mr. Amram Kass, Mr. David Orlander and Rabbi Chaim David Zwiebel, Esq. serve as chairmen of the dinner committee.

Other dinner chairmen include Daniel M. Healy, Executive Chairman of the Board, Heritage National Bank,  Meir Laufer, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Herald National Bank, and CEO, Plaza Capital Group, Daniel Altman, Dr. Norman Sohn and Ralph Tawil. Saul N. Friedman, Ronny Hersh and Chaim Kaminetzky are dinner co-chairs, and Jay Kestenbaum and Miriam Lubling will be scroll of honor chairs. Moshe Hellman serves as Ohel Bais Ezra’s devoted and loyal president.

The Mel and Phyllis Zachter Ohel Endowment Fund will match gifts to the fund with an additional $1 from an anonymous donor to every $2 contributed by donors up to $500,000.

  1. New York Hilton-that’s the place for Yeshiva dinner, not “heimishe” melave malka…
    Women League was started by the Tzadeikes, the Novominsker Rebbetzin(Eichenstein), zy’a. Family of the one of the Gedoilei Roshei HaYeshivos is also works there.
