rabbi-simon-livson[Video below.] Rabbi Simon Livson has officially been installed as chief rabbi of Finland, taking over for Rabbi Moshe Edelman.

The Israeli-born Rabbi Livson, who is 30 years old, immigrated to Finland in 1989.

Rabbi Livson learned at a yeshiva in Israel and then at the “Open Orthodox” Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School in Riverdale, New York.

Chovevei Torah is led by its founder and president, Rabbi Avi Weiss, and its rosh hayeshiva and dean, Rabbi Dov Linzer. The controversial institution and its efforts to redefine Orthodoxy have been reported extensively over the past few years here on Matzav.com after these efforts were first uncovered by the American Yated Neeman newspaper.

Rabbi Livson now resides in Helsinki with his wife, Mrs. Sivan Glazer-Livson, and their two-year-old daughter.

There are approximately 1,400 Jews in Finland.

  1. You are a bunch of haters of Israel and will will publish anything in the hoped of sensational jurnulism. Eventually you will all pay a hard price…. You are an accursed bunch.

  2. Congratulations to Rabbi Livson! And may Finland, which saved its entire Jewish population from the Nazis, continue to be good for Jews.

  3. #3 Finnish not Flemish, the Flemish people live in Belgium and speak a variant of Dutch language, eg Antwerp is a Flemish city with a sizeable Haredi kehilla. The Finnish community is small and I will leave it at that. Still, even if someone is not observant and goes to the synagogue every few years, say for a life milestone, things have to be done correctly. As for the attempt to lure the unaffiliated into this “chadash” sort of things, I disagree with #8 insider, leading astray even a single one and even on a single issue is a terrible tragedy and one that may have ramifications decades and generations later.

  4. With the induction of Rabbi Livson as Chief Rabbi of Finland, both the Jewish people of Finland, as well as the general population will be so very much enriched.
I wish him ‘lange, gezunte yuhrn’ many healthy years to come and much, much brocho and hatzlocho in his bringing his brethren – yes OUR brethren – acheinu kol beis Yisroel who live in that part of the world and beyond, much blessing and success in the upward path of Torah and Mitzvos!

With success to bring Torah and Yiddishkeit to Flemish Jews.

    “Flemish” refers to BELGIUM.

I love it when people use words they don’t understand to impress other people.

“With success to bring Torah and Yiddishkeit to Flemish Jews.”

Um, not quite sure how to break this to you, but Flemish people don’t live in Finland.

  7. Thank you for once again giving Chovevai torah some more unwarrented attention.
It seems that only Matzav keep on pushing this institution to the front.

    The Question is why?

  8. When a shul with a sizeable congregation, especially a shul with many torah scholars, hires a rabbi, it is not news. When Finland, with 14 Jewish people (1400 if you count everyone a hundred times), hires a rabbi then Matzav reports it as news. The obvious caveat os the CT connection. The chabad shliach there gets no mention. Only the CT individual.

  9. With success to bring Torah and Yiddishkeit to Flemish Jews.

No, hamudi sheli, we are not talking about “Flemish” Jews here. Rabbi Simon Livson shlita will minister to the Finnish Jewish community.

I fully understand that European geography probably did not feature in your education, and I realize that you have probably never been any further east than Coney island on ‘hol hamoed’. That, no doubt is the reason you make such foolish and elementary errors o fact.

Findland is extremely immoral when it comes to moral issues. Frum Jews should stay away.

I would not worry too much on that score #14. There is at least one contributor here who has not the faintest idea where Finland is located on the map!
