The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, on Monday condemned Israel’s decision to establish a new Jewish egalitarian prayer space at the Kosel, claiming that the designated area is an inseparable part of Islamic waqf property.

Israel’s plan to build a mixed-gender prayer section at the Western Wall “is another Israeli attempt to change the status quo at the Temple Mount,” Palestinian Minister of Waqf and Religious Affairs Youssef Ideiss said on Monday.

Ideiss claimed the Kosel was “a holy Islamic site expropriated by Israel in 1967.”

In October, the PA attempted to have the UN recognize the Western Wall as a Muslim holy site.

  1. It is highly instructive now to witness various people’s frame of reference and focus points. Nearly everyone is failing to prioritise correctly now. Discernment has left the station and the train is almost empty.

Jews should remember that the Western Wall is not the most important site for the Jews in the world. It’s a great place to visit for sure but people need to keep things in perspective.

This whole Women of the Wall thing is a storm in a teacup. Waste of time and energy really. Much to do about nothing. The whole kerfuffle is like the intense fight between the proponents of Betamax versus those for VHS in the “Great Videotape Format War” of the 1980’s. Eventually DVD’s swamped them both and both formats became curiosity items with little practical value.

    Confusion often precedes understanding nachon…
