New York City Councilman David G. Greenfield is working with City Hall to get more resources so that all the backed up garbage in Boro Park is picked up by Thursday night. After last week’s snow storm and unseasonably cold weather, the NYC Department of Sanitation postponed garbage pick up to clear the roads of snow and ice. When another storm was predicted last Saturday, the Department again took its collection trucks off the road. As a result, many Borough Park residents missed both their Wednesday and Saturday garbage pickups while Sanitation workers plowed snow and salted streets. Now, as a result, some residents have not had garbage pickup for over a week and a half.

“Many people in Boro Park haven’t had a garbage pickup since Purim. Obviously, that’s unacceptable. That’s why I am working with City Hall to get more resources to Boro Park today and tomorrow so that by tomorrow night we will be back on a regular schedule for garbage pickup.”

Before the snow began falling, Councilman Greenfield was in constant communication with the local Sanitation chiefs responsible for garbage pickup and snow removal. As the Department shifted back and forth between snow removal and garbage pickup, Councilman Greenfield fielded community concerns and brought them directly to the officials responsible. Now, with pick up resuming full time, Councilman Greenfield is working closely with the Sanitation commissioner’s office and the mayor’s office to ensure than Borough Park has the resources necessary to remove the piled up garbage by Thursday evening.

“With the added trucks and manpower, we now expect that by Thursday night everyone who has Wednesday or Thursday garbage pickup will finally see their garbage picked up and we will return to the regularly scheduled collection cycle. I thank Community Board 12 for working closely with me on this issue.”

  1. It’s a disgrace haven’t had pick since before Purim you can spot sanitation driver sitting in their truck drinking coffee talking on phone clocked one for 20 minutes or just driving by with empty trucks we didn’t have a blizzard no reason for this if you call sanitation you’ll end up getting a ticket
