A journalist of Haaretz interviewed Hussein Jabar, an Arab of Abu Gosh who buys the State of Israel’s chometz every year at the Chief Rabbinate’s headquarters in Yerushalayim.

He explained that he gives a prepayment of $14,300 in cash for chometz valued at $300 million.

“If a Saudi sheikh came and gave you the money, $300 million, and said that the Jews should be stuck without food, would you do this?” the journalist asked.

“Every proposal stands on its merits. I’d check it out,” he said.

  1. Ha ha. At least he’s honest and has a good sense of humor, a rare commodity in that part of the world.

  2. Stuck without “food”? With 300 million to spend, another sheikh would quickly sell their huge hidden stash of fine liquor. In the meantime we’d keep drinking slivovitz.
