Lag Ba’Omer usually finds barbershops overflowing with men and boys grateful to shed their overgrown bangs after weeks of Sefira.This year, however, amidst the challenges of Covid 19, there will be many amateurs trying their hands as barbers and attempting to do their best. An often overlooked aspect of giving a haircut is ensuring that it is up to par from a Halachic standpoint.
Unbeknownst to many, if not careful, it is quite easy to transgress Issurei Dioraysa when giving even the most basic haircut. Care must be taken in numerous places around the head to keep the Peyos Harosh intact according to the standards laid out in Halacha.
To address the now critical need for public education on this topic, Madison Torah Projects has released the video presentation of the shiur “ Halachos of Haircuts”, given in English by the popular and sought after speaker, Reb Avi Wiesenfeld , Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Beis Dovid Yerushalayim and the author of Kashrus in the Kitchen, the Pocket Halacha series and others.
Madison and Rabbi Wiesenfeld joined together over the last few years to offer this presentation to dozens of professional barbers and Rabbanim, as well as to many Yeshivos and camps around the NY-NJ area, in response to the general lack of knowledge amongst the public about these Halachos. This video is of the shiur given in Camp Agudah in 2018.
