-There is a well known minhag to bring flowers into shul and one’s home as a remembrance that on Shavuos we are judged on “Peiros Ha’ilon” – fruits. However, one should not cut off branches from fruit bearing trees for this purpose because of the Torah prohibition of “Ba’al Tashchis”.

  1. The real ‘Mekor’ for flowers comes from the ‘Remoh’ he says that tu bshvat is when things start growing but shavous is when things underground start the growing process

  2. Actually you have to go back to the Maharil. moreover, one of the earliest sources is the Targum Sheini which cites Haman’s complaint to Achashveirosh about the Jews Constant Holidays throughout the year. Haman cites the minhag of Jews bringing fragrant flowers and trees into their Shuls on Shavuous.
