The London based arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that Hamas sources have confirmed that Rafaa Salama, the commander of the Hamas Khan Yunis Brigade, was killed in the Israeli airstrike targetting Hamas’s #2, Mohammed Deif. The Hamas sources did not confirm anything about the fate of Deif.
The airstrike took place over Shabbos in Western Khan Yunis. The IDF does not believe any hostages were harmed in the strike. Hamas has claimed a large number of Palestinians were killed in the strike, although as per usual, they do not disctinguish between Hamas and civilian casualties, and no proof was given.
Both Deif and the confirmed killed Salama were architects of the Hamas massacre on Simchas Torah, with Deif personally announcing the attack in Gaza, calling on Palestinians to join in.
