Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri described President Donald Trump’s comments about taking control of the Gaza Strip as “ridiculous” and “absurd.”
“Trump’s remarks about his desire to control Gaza are ridiculous and absurd, and any ideas of this kind are capable of igniting the region,” Abu Zuhri told Reuters.
The Palestinian terror group’s response came shortly after Trump said he wanted the US to “take over” Gaza and “own” the Strip in order to rebuild the area, which had been devastated during the past 15 months of war.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous bombs and other weapons on the site… and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out [and] create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area,” Trump stated during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.
Trump did not clarify who would be eligible for these jobs, especially as he also called for the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza.
