Hamas has put forward a fresh proposal suggesting that all remaining hostages be freed in one go during phase two of the deal, according to a statement by Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem on Tuesday night.
Qassem explained that this release could be arranged if Israel agrees to a permanent ceasefire and fully withdraws from the Gaza Strip.
He also noted that Hamas had increased the number of prisoners to be freed, a move made at the request of mediators. He claimed that this was evidence of Hamas’ dedication to honoring the ceasefire.
”Israel’s demand to remove Hamas from Gaza is laughable, a mere psychological tactic. The resistance will not leave, and disarmament is out of the question,” he said.
“Any future arrangements for Gaza will be decided through national consensus.”
Israel’s security cabinet meeting on Monday concluded without any vote or decision regarding the second phase of the hostage-ceasefire agreement. This outcome left the Israeli delegation in Cairo without authority to negotiate on the matter.
