Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ political leader, has revealed that the Islamist group turned down an offer of as much as $15 billion in aid money for Gaza, which he alleged was conditional on the group laying down its arms.
In an interview with Qatari newspaper al-Lusail, Haniyeh claimed that the offer had been made in the context of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, released earlier this year, which was projected to allocate $13.38 billion to the Gaza Strip for development, cited Times of Israel.
Hamas, rulers of the Gaza Strip and Fatah, the ruling party in the West Bank, both oppose the so-called “deal of the century” and did so before the full details had been published.
