Hamas on Wednesday fiercely criticized a video posted by US President Donald Trump that outlines his idea for turning Gaza into a luxury seafront resort, according to Xinhua. The militant group accused Trump of ignoring Palestinian rights and cultural heritage.

Bassem Naim, a senior official in Hamas’ political bureau, expressed that Trump’s plan “fails to address the root causes of Gaza’s suffering, particularly the ongoing Israeli occupation.” “Unfortunately, Trump is reviving proposals that completely overlook the culture and needs of the Palestinian people,” Naim said in a statement published by Xinhua.

He went on to emphasize that any effort to rebuild Gaza would be pointless unless it addresses what he called the “open prison” imposed by Israel. “Our goal is not to improve prison conditions, but to end the occupation and be free of it,” Naim asserted, stressing that meaningful progress could only be achieved with the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

These remarks followed the release of a video on Trump’s Truth Social platform, which uses AI to illustrate his vision for Gaza’s future following the implementation of his plan. This plan suggests that the US would take control of Gaza for its reconstruction, while the population would relocate to nearby countries. The video features, among other things, Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lounging by a pool, Elon Musk—Trump’s close ally—eating hummus and handing out dollar bills on the beach, as well as statues of Trump and proposed vacation resorts.
