Hamas has called for unrest in Chevron following news of President Isaac Herzog’s plan to light the first ner of Chanukah at the Meoras Hamachpeilah tonight.

A Hamas official called the planned candle-lighting a “provocation” and an “attack,” and said that any violence that ensues would be Israel’s fault, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“The Israeli occupation must bear full responsibility for the consequences of this attack,” Ismail Radwan, a senior Hamas member, said in a statement on Friday. He added that the lighting of a menorah at the Meoras Hamachpeilah would be “a provocation of the feelings of the Palestinians and a blatant desecration of the sanctity of the mosque.”

  1. Okay, so the battle lines have been drawn. This is getting excited. Can’t wait to find out what happens. Keep us posted please.

  2. Can you blame Hamas? Hamas expected a religious Kipa wearing Jew to light the Menorah, not someone embarrassed of his Judaism and doesn’t keep any other mitzva.

  3. to our shame, EY is behaving now the way many of the jewish people did in the times of the chashmona”im. the kohen gadol told people to leave the holy country of eretz yisroel because the country was being defiled. just as today, the idea of נהיה ככל הגוים was taking over
