candle-small6It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Harav Yaakov Zakheim zt”l, longtime rov of Agudas Yisroel of Midwood, on Bedford Avenue and Avenue J in Flatbush, and one of the oldest rabbonim in Brooklyn. Rav Zakheim was a talmid of Harav Elchonon Wasserman zt”l, Hy”d, in Baranovitch and one of the last remaining links to that bygone era of the Torah world of pre-war Europe. Rav Zakheim was a respected talmid chochom who possessed a personality that endeared him to his mispallelim and to all Yidden who came in contact with him. He was exceedingly humble and demonstrated great determination throughout his life in his pursuit of growth in Torah and avodas Hashem.

Interestingly, during the last few years, even at his advanced age, Rav Zakheim would go each Motzoei Shabbos to attend Harav Yisroel Reisman’s Nach shiur at Achi Ezer on Ocean Parkway and Avenue S in Flatbush. To watch a man of his age attending a shiur given by someone many years his junior demonstrated his unrivaled bikush for emes and Torah. His life was an inspiration to many.

A gem of an individual and a person who embodied a life of Torah, Rav Zakheim’s passing leaves a tremendous void.

Rav Zakheim is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Zakheim, and his children, Reb Moshe Zakheim, Reb Shlomo Zakheim, Mrs. Rachel Klein and  Mrs. Devorah Hamada, and numerous aniklach.

The levaya will take place tomorrow morning at 10:00 at Rav Zakheim’s shul, at the corner of Bedford Avenue and Avenue J.

Yehi zichro boruch.
