According to GOP members of the House Oversight Committee who spoke to The Post on Thursday, the Secret Service has concluded its investigation into the cocaine discovered in the West Wing of the White House earlier this month, but no suspect has been identified. Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) expressed his dissatisfaction with the investigation, abruptly leaving a briefing offered to lawmakers and describing the conclusion as “bogus” and the investigation as a “complete failure.” Burchett emphasized that the White House has strict security measures in place, such as facial identification and the requirement of providing a Social Security number, making it implausible that the cocaine belonged to a casual visitor. He stated, “Nobody’s buying that at all.”

Republican lawmakers confirmed that approximately one gram of cocaine was found on July 2 in a storage locker within the West Wing’s executive entrance. The culprit was not captured on any cameras. Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) revealed that the cocaine was discovered in the 15th out of 182 lockers, with the key missing. Due to the absence of footage, investigators were unable to determine the exact time the cocaine was left. These lockers are situated near the basement entrance of the West Wing, just one floor beneath the Oval Office and adjacent to the Situation Room.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) informed reporters that investigators had narrowed down a list of around 500 individuals who had access to the locker where the small bag of cocaine was found. Greene questioned whether these potential suspects had undergone drug testing and was told that no such testing had been conducted or was planned.

Greene emphasized the disparity between drug testing practices in regular employment situations and the lack of such measures for White House visitors. While President Biden’s staff is subject to routine drug tests, visitors to the White House are not. Boebert expressed constitutional concerns about conducting drug screenings on random citizens, considering it an unusual investigative step.

The Republicans expressed frustration over the lack of answers and the perceived security lapses within the White House. Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) stated, “This is one of the most secure locations in the world, some of the best law enforcement officers in the world — and they don’t have any answers.” Boebert found the status of the investigation “disturbing” and highlighted that several lawmakers, including herself, had recently received suspicious white powdery substances in the mail. She criticized the absence of adequate security measures at the White House to detect substances, raising concerns about the type of individuals allowed onto the premises and their intentions.

Mace mentioned that the Secret Service had to request access to certain information through the Presidential Records Act since it was owned by the White House. The briefing took place in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility within the Capitol building to facilitate the sharing of confidential White House security details with committee members.

The Republicans announced that an official statement regarding the conclusion of the investigation would be made on Friday. Representative Burchett expressed his frustration with the state of affairs in Washington, D.C., suggesting that drastic measures were needed to address the issues, stating, “Washington, DC, is a trash can. Everybody wants to pick and choose. They may need to turn it upside down, put the dadgum garden hose to it, and clean it out.”

  1. Let me get this straight, there are open cubbies where visitors leave their belongs like cell phone etc and that location has no cameras? So the next time i visit there i should take back a newer cell phone than i came in with?

Wouldnt this place of all the places need a better camera?

    • Think they’ll tell you the crimes and horrific activities from previous presidents and government officials who were b”H dealt with? Obama’s cocaine use revealed in new biography. Barack Hussein Obama and Michel used cocaine together, as well as cannabis. Mr Obama has already admitted using cocaine as a teenager.

  2. Under the legal concept of executive privilege, the President is able to shield certain members of his administration and family from investigations regarding white house related activities.
Sort of like pleading the 5th on someone else’s behalf.
