pomegranate-hascIt was a special day at Pomegranate when the Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz, came for a visit. His purpose was to recognize the partnership of Pomegranate, a state-of-the-art food emporium, and HASC Center, an agency which provides a full range of services to people with developmental disabilities.   Mr. Markowitz delivered a proclamation honoring the mega store for providing employment for special needs.   In conjunction with HASC Center’s Supported Employment Program, Pomegranate has given Yitzchak, one of its program participants, a unique opportunity to realize his dream, a dream like so many others have, to gain employment and earn a living.  Yitzchok , who was present at the reading of this proclamation shared his feelings of happiness with the Borough President.

Mr. Avraham Banda, proprietor of Pomegranate, expressed his satisfaction with this exceptional program and specifically with his dedicated employee. Representing HASC Center were  Abe Eisner, President, Board of Directors; Shmiel  Kahn, Executive Director ; Dr. Chaim Wakslak, Clinical Director ; Avi Sacks, Associate Executive Director ; Suri Englard, Director  of  Day Services ;  Yisroel Rosenthal,  Supervisor, Supported Employment and Motti Rosenthal,  Yitzchok’s residence  manager . Goldie Foxman, Yitzchok’s service coordinator stated, “Thanks to Pomegranate and HASC Center, Yitzchok has clearly advanced and become a productive member of society”.

HASC Center’s Supported Employment Program, funded by the NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPDD), affords men and women with developmental disabilities the opportunity to hold competitive jobs in their community.  Through the provision of job coaching and individualized training, its program participants learn new job skills as well as interpersonal social skills.   With the supports offered by this specialized program, the individual becomes increasingly independent and successful in the job.    For over 2 decades, HASC Center’s Supported Employment Programs have successfuly placed many men and women with special needs in gainful employment within their community.
