President Joe Biden held a meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, at the White House this afternoon, marking Herzog’s second visit to the White House since assuming office. Accompanying Herzog were US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides and Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog, who happens to be President Herzog’s older brother.

The primary objective of President Herzog’s diplomatic visit is to strengthen the bond and partnership between the United States and Israel, emphasizing the deep-rooted ties that transcend any controversies between their respective governments. As part of his visit to Washington DC, President Herzog will also deliver a special address to a joint session of the US Congress convened to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence.

During their meeting, President Herzog touched upon the ongoing contentious discussions in Israel concerning the government’s proposed judicial reform.

“The heated debate which we are going through in as a society, it’s a heated debate, but it’s also a virtue and a tribute to the greatness of Israeli democracy,” he said.

“Israeli democracy is sound, strong, and resilient,” he added.

President Biden commended the unbreakable friendship between the United States and Israel, highlighting notable achievements during his administration. This includes successfully mediating a deal to resolve the maritime border dispute between Israel and Lebanon, as well as facilitating the opening of Saudi airspace for flights to and from Israel.

  1. Can’t the POTUS ever do something without use of pre-prepared notes? He’s always seen reading from staffer’s pre-prepared notes.
