NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) called Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s recent criticism of the Orthodox Jews the height of political hypocrisy. At a meeting between Jewish organizational officials and Democratic senators, Schumer blamed Orthodox Jews for not doing more to call out President Trump on what the Senator felt was Trump’s failure to confront hate in the United States.

“Singling out Orthodox Jews was distasteful, shameful and arrogant,” said Hikind, a fellow Democrat. “This statement of Senator Schumer’s was nothing less than his playing to his progressive liberal base. If the Senator was genuinely concerned about confronting hate and anti-Semitism, he wouldn’t have given President Obama a pass when the Obama administration did everything possible to marginalize Israel. Where was Schumer when Linda Sarsour showed support for terrorists and undermined the existence of Israel? Or when Black Lives Matter adopted anti-Israel platforms? Has the Senator held press conferences confronting the racist BDS movement, which seeks to isolate and starve innocent Israelis? The best candidate who Senator Schumer saw fit to lead the DNC was Keith Ellison, a friend of Louis Farakhan who called Hitler ‘a great man.’

“The Orthodox community does not need to be lectured by Senator Schumer. Let the good Senator work on alleviating anti-Israel animus within segments of the Democratic party. Because, as we all know, anti-Israel rhetoric and ‘anti-Zionism’ is simply the 21st century version of anti-Semitism.”

  1. Schumer doesn’t practice Judaism. He practices Liberalism. Something like a Jew practicing the phony religion of Reform which is not Judaism.

  2. What exactly are we being blamed for? Is it the citizens responsibility to correct the president? The orthodox community is relatively such a tiny fraction of the American people. Does he mean to vent frustration at the orthodox who voted for him? Trump lost ny and nj anyway in the election. The more the liberals talk the more stupid they sound.

    • Yes Trump lost ny and Nj yet the orthodox jewish communities all went for Trump. Why do you think Trump admires the orthodox jewish communities. He freed Rubashkin and he invited only orthodox rabbis to his Chanukah party. He even tweeted about the red in the sea of blue how Orthodox Jews voted in mass for him. Look at the map. Boro park, flatbush, williamsburg, crown heights, sea gate, five towns, kew gardens, forest hills,Lakewood, deal,Jackson,Toms river, monsey. And yes the orthodox vote counted in Ohio in florida and in penn. Trump knows this. His children know it and all his lawyers and top staff know it.

  3. I say we arrange a protest in front of his office. I am an AMerican citizen in the eyes of the government. And I will not be religion-shamed or berated for my political beliefs as a member of a religious community. Certainly not by my “representative”.

  4. I’m sorry! But Sen Schumer does have a point here… We in the Orthodox community unfortunately look the other way when it comes to Trump… Schumer being a hypocrite, doesn’t mean we should also be hypocritical…

    • What other way. Trump has done more for Orthodox Jews than any president in history. He has defended Israel, freed Rubashkin, working on tax credits for yeshivas, invites only orthodox rabbis to his Chanukah party, appointed a conservative judge in Supreme Court. You have to be out of your meeting nd to have supported a hillarey.

  5. Schumer is suffering from white guilt.
Being a Democrat is a religion onto itself.
After all the evils perpetrated on people of color, Mr. Schumer doesn’t want to tip the apple cart.

  6. Orthodox Jews should do more to call out President Trump to drain the filthy swamp including disgraceful guys like this self-hating Schumer, haters of America. These anti-American politicians should be voted out of office. All they care about is destroying American and bringing in illegal immigrants. Remember his crocodile tears on Trump’s travel ban?

  7. 79% of republicans support Israel vs 27% of democrats who support israel
81% of conservative republicans support Israel vs 5% who support the palestinians
19% of liberal democrats support israel vs 35% who support the palestinians

  8. Bad to think we should go after Mr. Schumer for his changing reaction. He is bright. Let us work to bipartisan mind and not collective hate for any subset of our culture. Our orthodox yidden who are tight know their vote. Either democrat or republican. They are always both.

The idea of Mr. Schumer is his own poor faced year. It is sad, but until this GOP in office redeems our manners it is not going to be popular to even work among any democrat its support.

And we know that Hashem said that America can work. Its our state and our fate. Make it right by orthodoxy, not partisan anger.

    That is our fate.
